Denise had a checklist: First semester at college. Check. Brand new job: Check. The only thing left to figure out is what her path in life should be. She was at her new job for only a week, when this young man with a gorgeous smile introduced himself to her, “Hi, my name is Diego.”
And before she could fully understand how a simple hello had changed her life forever, she was standing atop Waimea Canyon in Kaui, driving through Pacific Coast Highway in California and driving 715 miles to Tennessee to meet her new daughter.
As proud as she felt to be a Navy wife and the honor she felt in supporting her husband as he rose through the ranks, no one could have prepared her for the reality that keeping the home fires burning is a very lonely business.
This is a story about love and adventure. Heartbreak and long deployments. But most importantly, a chance to honor all the people and places that have made a difference in her life along the way.
